My research is focused on the links between muscle-tendon design and function in human locomotion.

 

In my master's and doctoral theses, I studied the morphological and mechanical advantage of the muscle-tendon and foot structure in elite East African middle- and long-distance runners. Also, I developed a big database of the muscle-tendon architecture in the lower limb and discovered the diversity of the muscle-tendon architecture for children and adults in the general population as well as athletes.

 

In my post-doc, I was researching the running-induced structural muscle changes (damage) between men and women using ultrasound and MR imaging.

After I moved to Niigata University, I started my lab from scratch. We are currently developing methods to assess muscle energetics during muscle force production in humans.

​

To evaluate the morphology and function of the muscle and tendon, we use an in-vivo ultrasound measurement technique, EMG analysis as well as a kinetics and kinematics approach.

​

2022年夏に新潟大学にて新たに研究室を立ち上げました。ゼロからのスタートということで設備等、不十分なところも多いですが、国内外の研究機関・研究者の方々と協力しながら少しずつ研究を進めております。
